IBX Artist Collective

Schenley Farms Collection now online, see link above. More photos available soon. This collection contains altered books, small boxes, and a pocketbook purse. Inspiration came from Donna Parker teen novels, Woodrow Wilson’s papers, WWI ephemera, and a photo of my father’s soldier cousin whose last name was “Schorr” thus prompting the ultimate pick-up line of all time “Hey ladies, stick close to the shore…”

The first Artist Exchange was held today at the First Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. Carolyn, Danny, Valda and others participated. Apparently most of the fun happened before 12 noon, my arrival time, but I found some goodies despite my tardy appearance. It is one of my fondest hopes that such an event occurs on a regular basis. We all have bits and pieces to sell or give away and the comraderie is important also. Artists, like writers, need to engage in some sort of collective reparte’ — collaboration? No, not necessarily. It’s more as if a conflagration of creative spirits causes a spike in the collective mindset.

We shall begin a FaceBook account for the area artist exchange and hopefully share our resources as well as our spirit.

What is a Cubist Collage?

What is a Cubist Collage?

An attorney in Brooklyn, NY recently sent a link to a very interesting discussion concerning collages. Since laywers have to go to collage for a long time, I figured he knew what he was talking about. I went to collage in North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas, and even Holland (that’s The Netherlands for your purists). Collages… my favorite way to learn:

“Collage has thus been deployed both as a mode of political resistance and as a protest against the commodity form, as an instrument of totalitarian propaganda and as a capitalist advertising tactic. It was this oscillation—a sweeping applicability to both the popular and the political, consumption and negation—that would usher in the late-twentieth-century turn to collage as a common and essential form of rethinking, repositioning, and reworking media.”

That’s from ArtForum, a very remarkable read for anyone artistically inclined.
